4 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know You Could Do With Facebook Ads

Posted on Jun 30, 2019Sep 4, 2020 by Tenzing Samdup
4 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know You Could Do With Facebook Ads

Sometimes when I talk about Digital Marketing (and consequently Facebook Ads) with friends, they ask me if certain things can be done, and they’re surprised when I say yes. Similarly even clients sometimes ask if we can do xyz for them and when I say yes, they’re surprised.

Without further ado, here a few (insane) things you can do with Facebook Ads that you may not know about.

You can show an ad to a single person

Facebook has a feature that lets you upload details of your customers (including phone numbers, emails) to create an audience (a type of audience known as a Custom Audience).

The minimum audience size for this type of Custom Audience is 100 (some websites say more, some say less) to be usable in your Facebook ads.

Now let’s say you upload the details of 99 female users and 1 male user and then only target men in your ads.

That one person whose details you uploaded will now be the lucky recipient of your ads!

We’ve never really tried this because we haven’t had to, but it is theoretically possible.

You can show one ad 90 times to the same person in the same day

Speaking of theoretically possible things, yes, you can also show your ads multiple times to the same person in a single day.

This involves using Facebook’s Reach campaign objective, which lets you control the frequency for your ads (frequency refers to how often the same person sees the ads) over a certain time period.

At the moment, the highest frequency you can achieve is 90 impressions in 1 day (impressions refer to the no. of times someone sees the ad).

This means that you could set a high frequency for your ad to ensure that the same person sees it many, many, many times.

The only drawback here is that instead of paying, let’s say $10 to show your 1 ad to a 1000 people once, you’re now paying $10 to show your 1 ad to a few people 1000 times.

Ideally, it only makes sense if your creative requires a lot of repetition and your target audience is quite small, and most importantly, won’t go nuts after seeing your ad a gazillion times.

You can send messages to users

Yep, you can actually sends messages to Facebook users!

This is achievable through the Messages campaign objective in Facebook Ads Manager. These types of ads appear as messages in the user’s inbox, just like a normal message.

The only restriction here is that you can only send Sponsored Messages to a user only if you have the ability to message them – this means this is only for people who have messaged your Facebook Page in the past.

This type of ad campaign can be a great way to inform your users about new features or products that you are offering, or even to start a conversation with them about their experiences with your brand.

Unfortunately if someone has NOT messaged your Facebook Page, then you will not be able to do this 😅

One workaround this is to do another campaign first encouraging users to message you (again with the Messages objective).

Once you’ve built up a large enough audience (which is also relevant), then you can unleash your Sponsored Messages upon them!

You can show ads to people based on their birthdays

YES you can do this!

Among the many, many, many targeting options available on Facebook Ads Manager, buried deep within (well not so deep) is the option to target users based on their birthday month. Each birthday month is separate so you can choose any combination you like.

Even better, you can also target users who have upcoming birthdays – this is for people whose birthdays are coming up in the next 7 days.

These options are great for creatives that encourage users to splurge on themselves, for e.g., “Treat yourself to a weekend getaway at xyz Resort!”, “You’ve worked hard all year, now gift yourself the break you deserve!”.

But wait, it gets better!

What if you could target friends of people whose birthdays are coming up? After all, it’s more likely that a friend, girlfriend / boyfriend, partner, etc. will buy a gift for their special someone.

The good news is, YES, you can also target these people!

More specifically, you can target “Close friends” of men or women with a birthday in the next 0 to 7 days, or 7 to 30 days. “Close friends” are defined by Facebook, based on your interactions with your friends (you can also set people as your “Close friends” within Facebook).

5 Do’s and Don’ts of Copywriting

Posted on Jun 25, 2019Jul 3, 2019 by Sumukh
5 Do’s and Don’ts of Copywriting

Copywriting is an undervalued skill, but it’s importance is clear: no matter how good the design, if the copy in the ad is flawed, chances are that your ad will not do well.

Now while there isn’t a formula that can give you the perfect text for your ad, there are a few ways you can make your ad more persuasive and convert more leads.

Here are a few do’s and don’ts for you to think about to make your ad copy perform the way you want it to.

Do: Appeal to an emotion.

Try to evoke an emotional response with your ad copy. The stronger the emotional appeal, the more people remember the ad. And the more people remember you, the more successful your campaign will be.

Don’t: Be bland.

Robotic ad copies will not set your ad apart from everyone else.

Example: “Experience the joy of buying a new car.” vs. “New cars available here.”

Do: Use strong headlines.

Your headline is one of the most important parts of your ad. It is what draws any potential customer’s eyes, and the stronger it is, the more likely your customers will take action.

Don’t: Use clickbait.

Don’t use clickbait in the name of using a strong headline. The line between a clickbait and a strong headline is blurred, yes, but overselling or exaggeration usually leads to headlines becoming click-baitey and subsequently, unsatisfied customers.

Example: “5 Interesting Ways to Increase your ROI” vs. “5 Amazing Ways to Increase your ROI as Recommended by Experts (Number 3 will shock you!).”

Do: Personalize your ads.

Your products and services are there to solve someone’s problems. Talk to your customers as though they’re in the same room as you, use second person pronouns and most importantly, BE RESPECTFUL.

Don’t: Be impersonal.

Don’t disconnect yourself from the audience. Unless they know how your product or service will help them, they will not consider you as a viable option.

Example: “All your plumbing issues solved in a flash!” vs. “High quality plumbing service available.”

Do: Be bossy with your CTA.

A good ad will always have a call-to-action. Your CTA must be bossy, and tell people to do something NOW, rather than give them an option.

Don’t: Offer a choice with the CTA.

Using words like ‘if’ in your CTA automatically reduces its impact. Be assertive, and not passive with your CTAs.

Example: “Get your free report now.” vs “If you’d like a free report, click here.”

Do: Use simple language.

A general rule of thumb is that anyone over the age of 10 should be able to understand your ad by just looking at it once. The simpler the ad is, the better. This might not hold true for all ads, but is usually good to follow.

Don’t: Overcomplicate.

Using flowery and complicated word might impress dictionary lovers, but there are very few of them around. Obstreperous and complicated words tend to be redundant in nature, and (as you might have noticed while reading this sentence), tends to cause the audience to lose attention.

Example: “A peaceful time awaits you at XYZ Resort.” vs “Transcendent tranquility awaits at XYZ Resort.”

Copywriting is one of the many facets of digital marketing, and good copywriting is vital for any successful marketing campaign. Hopefully, these tips allow you to become a better copywriter!

Websites vs. Social Media: Which is Better for You?

Posted on Jun 25, 2019Jun 26, 2019 by Sumukh
Websites vs. Social Media: Which is Better for You?

We are in the age of the Internet – gone are the days when your biggest marketing tool was word-of-mouth. While word-of-mouth is still important, how it spreads has drastically changed. Hashtags, reviews and online presence can make or break a business.

In this era, you have a large variety of marketing options and avenues to explore. Broadly, you can promote your business through either websites or social media pages (or even both). Choosing the correct online platform for your business depends on a number of factors, including the size of business, how famous it is, how important customer feedback is, and a variety of other factors.

So should you opt for social media marketing, or create a website for yourself? Hopefully, you’ll have a clearer idea after reading this blog!

Websites and social media both have their ups and downs, and the time and money you should invest in either should only be decided after you’ve given it enough thought.

So what advantages does one avenue have over the other?

Websites are better than social media because…

Complete control

When you own a website, you have complete control over everything, from layouts & colors, to photos, content & web applications you might want to include.

Revenue opportunities
While there are laws and restrictions, what you do on your website is solely dependent on you. It offers you a platform through which you can make sales and display your products and services.

Full ownership

Unless you’re running a content curation website, everything on your website is owned by you. You have complete ownership of the content, graphics, images, and even applications within the website.

24 hours availability
Unlike running physical outlets or offices, your website and all its services will be available to all your customers 24/7. This is a huge advantage, especially if you do business internationally.

Websites are worse than social media because…

Maintenance costs & time
A website is something that needs to be updated regularly. Whether it be content, services, products, or even the layout, you need to be constantly be spending time and money to make sure that your website is up-to-date and relevant.

Complexity

Having a simple website is pretty similar to having a social media page, but the more features and customization you want in your website, the more time and money it will take to set up.

Stronger marketing campaigns
Generating traffic and increasing visibility through a website is a lot more difficult than doing the same with social media pages. To achieve this, a strong and detailed marketing plan needs to be hashed out, and implemented effectively as well.

Social media is better than websites because…

Visibility

As of 2019, Facebook boasts 2.32 billion monthly active users, and Instagram comes second with 1 billion. With such a large potential customer base already set up, gaining visibility on social media platforms is a lot easier than doing the same on your website.

Little to no technical expertise needed
Social media pages require very little technical know-how to operate effectively. The technicalities of social media websites (running ads, making sense of analytics, and similar tasks) can easily be learnt through free online resources and experience.

The platforms themselves are designed to be very user-friendly and provide adequate learning resources.

Pre-optimized for search engines
If you do an online search for any business, chances are that the social media pages rank higher than the actual website of the business. Social media pages are pre-optimized for search engines, and can save you a lot of time and effort in this regard.

Easier to market

Social media pages, in essence, are used for marketing. The services, features and functionalities that they offer provides you with a marketing avenue that is easy to pick-up and master.

Social media is worse than websites because…

No ownership
You might own your business, but you do not own any of your social media accounts. This can pose a variety of problems to your business. For example, if your main marketing platform is on a social media site and the service provider shuts down, you have to start from scratch again.

Google+ recently shut down, rendering any marketing efforts on the platform void.

Limited control

When creating social media accounts, you only have control over the content, images and videos you put up. The layout of the page, information you can provide and such factors are controlled by the service provider itself.

Limited analytics
Websites analytics can be customized according to need. You can track any and every metric you can possibly think of (who came to the website through which channel, how long are they staying, what are they looking at, and more). However, you can only track and analyze data that the social media platform provides in the case of social media pages.

So what should you opt for?

Your choice of marketing avenues depends upon your business.

If you’re a small start-up with limited funds, you may want to opt for a strong social media presence over a website. They are easier to use, and can help you build a community of customers and well-wishers. Most importantly, they are free and you can set them up in minutes (in comparison websites require paying for domain, hosting, emails, etc.).

A bigger business should invest in a website as it increases your credibility, and strong SEO (Search Engine Optimization) will allow you greater visibility than social media pages offer. Most importantly, larger businesses have a bigger budget to customize their website according to their brand guidelines. This is also helpful when running any marketing campaigns (e.g. creation of custom pages for custom campaigns).

At the end of the day, most businesses will still need both – just the time and effort invested into each will differ. How you determine which is a higher priority is up to you and your business goals.

Fitness is a Lifestyle as Described by Nishant Pradhan

Posted on Jun 19, 2019Jun 25, 2019 by Sumukh
Fitness is a Lifestyle as Described by Nishant Pradhan

On Sunday, 2 June 2019, we hosted Nishant Pradhan (of Diet Nepal) as our guest speaker for the session. A fitness enthusiast and a nutrition expert, Mr. Pradhan gave us a lot of tips to stay fit, interacted with us, and answered all our fitness-related queries.

The importance of fitness

Mr. Pradhan started the session by elucidating the importance of fitness in our lives. “Fitness is a lifestyle choice,” he said, while telling us his story. Weighing over 120 kg in his mid-20s, he learned the hard way that staying stagnant and not indulging in activities that promote fitness is very detrimental to the body.

An exceptional basketball player in his school life, he gained weight after finishing his SLCs due to the radical shift from hostel life to day-scholar life. After facing a lot of problems, he took up fitness, and started working out.

“Patience is key”, he reminded us. He only saw results after going at it for more than 3 months, and within 8 months, had lost around 50 kilos. After completing his masters from the US, he came back to Nepal and pioneered the supplements business here.

How do we stay fit?

“You don’t have to necessarily go to the gym to stay fit,” said Mr. Pradhan. He explained that even morning walks, or eating healthy is staying fit. He also gave us a treasure trove of fitness-related information, including:

The importance of food in fitness

Fitness is 30% workout and 70% of what you eat, and not eating food does not equal to losing weight. And while fasting is fine once in a while, regular fasting has a detrimental effect on health.

There are certain diets like Keto diets and intermittent fasting which work temporarily, but affect your health in the long run. The best diet is 6-8 meals a day.

Avoiding overeating, but getting all the proper nutrients

Micronutrients like proteins, carbs and vitamins are especially important for regular office-goers. Nutrition not only affects physical health, but also mental health. Hence, it is important to eat properly, lest the quality of life degrades.

The brain gets information from the stomach only after 15 mins, so if you feel full, you have overeaten. The metabolism of any person is controllable, since eating is a habit. There are also certain tricks you can do, like drinking a few glasses of water before meals to trick your stomach into feeling full.

Busting or confirming some popular eating myths

There are a lot of myths regarding food and eating habits that are popular amongst people. Some, like the belief that eating rice makes you fat, is completely false. It is overeating that makes you fat, not carbs.

There are a few that have some amount of truth to them, like the belief that alcohol increases weight. Alcohol does not increase weight directly, but it suspends your metabolism, causing whatever you eat during that time to turn into fat.

However, some are completely true, like the fact that stress increases weight, but science has been unable to explain why though.

Supplements are recommended, but not a necessity

The supplements available in the market are not a necessity for staying fit. However, due to factors like unbalanced diets and adulterated foods, they are recommended to obtain the required micronutrients.

How do we start?

Starting the journey of being fit is a big step, but just starting is not enough. Consistency is key. And you don’t have to join a gym or do intensive workouts everyday. Anything that gets your heart rate up is a workout.

And you don’t even have to dedicate hours and hours of your time to stay fit. 45 mins of light workouts everyday is more than enough to stay healthy.

When do we start?

Fitness (like Digital Marketing) is not something that should be delayed. The earlier you start, the better. The results might take time, but patience and consistency is key.

If you want to get fit, dedicate some time everyday to an activity that gets your heart rate up and burns some calories.

If you want a great digital marketing solution, then call us or fill out this form today to book a free 1 hour consultation with our experts.

10 Most Frequently Asked Questions about Digital Marketing in Nepal

Posted on Jun 5, 2019Sep 4, 2020 by Tenzing Samdup
10 Most Frequently Asked Questions about Digital Marketing in Nepal

Digital Marketing can be summed up as the advertising of products / services on a digital platform. However the topic can be so vast and complex that most inexperienced digital marketers always get stuck even on the basics.

Keeping that in mind, here are the 10 most frequently asked questions about Digital Marketing that we’ve come across so far.

What are the biggest problems inexperienced Digital Marketers face?

The biggest problem inexperienced Digital Marketers face is that they expect quick results.

Success does not happen overnight! It requires constant effort, patience and time to get results. Giving up too quickly on strategies or tools happens quite a bit, which can make less experienced digital marketers feel demotivated.

Be willing to experiment, test out hypotheses, and try new things every now and then! This helps you get an idea of what works and what does not work for you.

Most importantly, don’t set vague goals and objectives since they will not allow you to reach anywhere other than where you already are.

Which social media channels do digital marketers use the most?

All of them!

Just kidding.

There are plenty of social media channels that are typically used in Digital Marketing in Nepal, some of which are:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Twitter
  • YouTube

Some marketers also like to use:

  • Pinterest
  • Snapchat
  • Tumblr
  • LinkedIn

These are just some of the many platforms digital marketers like to use.

Try all the platforms – see what you like and observe what works for you and where your target audiences are. Perhaps you’ll find one that works well for your business.

Usually Instagram works well for food or fashion-related businesses while Facebook is the best platform to reach everyone. Similarly LinkedIn offers the best options for reaching professionals.

Not sure what to focus on first? Start with Facebook and Instagram!

What are the benefits of hiring a Digital Marketing agency?

There are numerous benefits to hiring a Digital Marketing agency for your business!

They know what they’re doing
When you pick the right agency, they can create the best plan to market your services & products online because of their experience and knowledge.

Get various professionals in one package
Hiring a Digital Marketing agency gives you access to numerous professionals including copywriters, social media strategists, graphic designers, animators, social media managers, and more!

Get high value at a low cost
When you hire an agency for Digital Marketing, you’ll find that they offer you the services of a whole team at a much lower cost than if you were to hire dedicated staff for each role.

You can focus on your business
As with any outsourcing, outsourcing your Digital Marketing to a dedicated agency means that you are now free to focus on your business.

How do digital marketers make sure they never run out of content ideas?

If you think about it, one can find inspiration in almost everything.

Your competitors can help you
No, we’re not telling you to rip off your competitors! Learn from their content; see what’s working for them and what’s not.

Repurpose successful content
Go through your old posts and look for content that generated the most engagement. Update and repurpose such posts for days when you can’t get any new ideas.

Ask your audience
When you run out of ideas, don’t hesitate to ask your audience what kind of content they want you to make. You’ll be surprised how many useful ideas you can get!

Should I hire a Digital Marketing agency?

Unless you specialize in Digital Marketing and possess all the knowledge of marketing tools, the answer is YES, you should hire a Digital Marketing agency for your business!

Alternatively you can also hire an in-house Digital Marketing team but that requires more time and energy which you may not have.

What are the best ways to repurpose content to reach wider audiences?

Here are some of our favorite ways to repurpose old content:

Make a video
One great way to repurpose old content is to make videos out of blog posts. Videos always get more views than all-text articles and do great on social media as long as you make them interesting!

Infographics
Nobody has time to read anything nowadays; infographics help condense a lot of information into easy to understand and intuitive graphics which are both interesting to the user as well as provide useful (or sometimes silly) information.

Newsletters
Have great content that will be interesting to your customers? Send them a newsletter with links to all of them!

What is the difference between Content Marketing and Digital Marketing?

Digital Marketing and Content Marketing are two different things:

Digital Marketing is the promotion of products and services on digital platforms. It aims to sell your products and services online and attract clients.

Content Marketing is marketing of your content (e.g. blogs, videos, infographics) through platforms such as ads, emails, etc. While Content Marketing is a major part of Digital Marketing, it can also be done through offline / traditional methods.

What do I need to do to become a Digital Marketing expert?

There are many online courses that can teach you Digital Marketing. A quick Google search will show you countless resources, be it paid or free.

If possible, pick a paid course from a reliable website, since these are more comprehensive and are taught by experienced professionals.

Keep in mind that this is just theoretical knowledge – you still need to apply what you’ve learned. Ultimately, it’s actual practice that determines how well you do in the field.

Is Digital Marketing the future of advertising?

Of course!

This is the era of the Internet.

Everything is available online, and people rarely read newspapers or watch television. This shows the importance of Digital Marketing for promoting any businesses’ products and services online.

Devices are also getting more and more integrated, which means there are more platforms available to market your products.

As you can see, Digital Marketing is indeed the future of advertising!

What are the main services provided by a Digital Marketing Agency?

The main services provided by a Digital Marketing agency include

  • Branding & Logo design
  • Web design
  • Mobile Apps design
  • Social media presence plan
  • SEO – Search Engine Optimization
  • UI / UX design
  • Social Media Management

As with any company, there will be some that offer more and some that offer less. There are some companies that specialize on just one area as well.
